Veteran-Owned Business Collects Treats for the Troops

HandyVets seeks community support in donating Halloween candy to heroes overseas

St. Louis, MO—HandyVets Inc., a St. Charles-based veteran-owned company specializing in property maintenance and repair solutions, was founded with the primary mission to empower veterans through skilled job offerings. This Halloween, the company is giving back in a sweet way by collecting leftover candy to deliver to the troops, November 1-10.

Treats will be accepted on behalf of Operation Gratitude, a nonprofit organization that sends care packages and letters addressed to individually named U.S. troops deployed in Iraq, Afghanistan, Kuwait, Guantanamo Bay, Kosovo, and onto military ships all over the world. Donations can be brought to the HandyVets office located at 2480 Executive Drive, Suite 101 in Saint Charles, during the following times:

  • November 1-3, 8 a.m. – 4 p.m.
  • November 4, 1 – 4 p.m.*
  • November 6-10, 8 a.m. – 4 p.m.

*On Saturday, November 4, snacks and refreshments will be served and attendees will have the opportunity to meet some HandyVets.

“We are so grateful to the communities we serve; our clients, partners, vendors, and friends are always willing to give back,” said Ben Murphy, HandyVets’ founder. “This collection is the perfect opportunity to show your appreciation, get rid of that tempting Halloween candy, and give the troops a sweet reminder of home, especially as the holidays approach.”

The HandyVets know, firsthand, how it feels to be away from their families. Every HandyVet technician has served in the United States military and has been subject to the many challenges that veterans face when returning home. HandyVets hires trained craftsmen and tradesmen, and also those who qualify for on-the-job training and continuing education programs, to provide unique opportunities to our nation’s heroes.

“Our military men and women face hardship every day; it is our duty to give back,” said Murphy. “Instead of letting candy go to waste, we will make sure it gets delivered to our country’s heroes.”
